Theatre on Ice

Redwood City Ice Theatre

Theatre on Ice (TOI) is US Figure Skating's newest competitive figure skating event that began in Europe and is growing stronger every year in the United States. TOI combines the grace of figure skating with the excitement of theatre and dance. Teams are composed of 8 to 30 skaters, who must all have passed at least the USFS Pre-Preliminary Moves in the Field test to compete. Competitions are judged by USFS judges and teams are scored on dramatic performance, costuming and overall quality of skating.

The Redwood City Ice Theatre Team (formerly RWC Rockettes) began in 2002 as a skating school Flow & Movement class. Former coach, Kitty Kelly-McGorry, developed this first group of skaters into the Rockettes, and then deveoped several teams (Senior, Junior & Novice).

RWC Ice Theatre has performed in numerous competitions and benefit shows including the 2006 International Theatre on Ice Competition in Bourne, MA where the Junior team placed 4th overall and the Senior Team Placed 5th.

AT the 2007 International Theatre on Ice Competition (also in Bourne, MA), RWC Ice Theatre received one Silver medal and two Bronze and were the only team to medal in all three events.

This season, RWC Ice Theatre is training to compete in the first ever National Theatre on Ice Competition and also the International Theatre on Ice Competition, both of which will be held in Burlington, VT, in June 2008. Placing well at the new National Competition qualifies teams to compete in the 2009 US State Games in Colorado Springs, CO.
